Who should take this course:
First line managers and those who have or are about to acquire supervisory
responsibilities.
The course provides an introduction to health, safety, welfare and
environmental issues for those requiring an understanding of their
legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities.
Objectives:
To ensure that all those given supervisory responsibilities
understand:
- Why they are carrying out their identified duties
- What is expected of them
- How to contribute to the safety of the workplace
- The problems of the industry
- How health and safety law is structured
- How their supervisory role fits in with the manager
in controlling the site safely
- How to carryout risk assessments
- The need for method statements
- How to carryout site inductions, tool box talks
and method statement briefings
- What is meant by proactive and reactive monitoring
and appreciate their need
Training
Method:
Course assessment is through the candidate successfully developing
and presenting a tool box talk, participating in group discussions
and a multiple choice examination at the end of the course.
This course is an ideal foundation for obtaining
a basic understanding of health and safety duties and responsibilities
for first line management. On successfully completing this course
a natural progression would be the five day Site Management Safety
Training Scheme (SMSTS) course.
